Race to Alaska sailor and author David Kilmer will recount his 750-mile adventure Oct. 2 at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library. Kilmer, Dogsmile Adventures team member, will share the thrill of the race, North America's longest human- and wind-powered sailing contest at 7 p.m. at the library, 702 E. Front Ave. Kilmer and a crew of three other sailors departed Townsend, Wash., in June, traversing open sea to Ketchikan, Alaska. 'Their home was a small craft with no engine, a good chance of capsizing and a slight chance of being eaten by bears,' said Holly Stetson, the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Foundation manager.
